Scotch & Cigars

Posted in Life with tags , , on September 27, 2008 by Dankku

So I’m feeling great, I’m doing pretty good. The job is going better and better for every day. I thought I deserved some celebration so I went ahead and bought myself some Scotch whisky and some cigars.

The plan for this evening is not to do anything at all, not to think about anything, or at least as little as possible and just enjoy being in the moment while sipping on my drink and puffing on my cigars. It should be grand.

Adriaaaaan, Adriaaan… I’ll be back!

Posted in Life with tags , , , on September 19, 2008 by Dankku

So I really want to blog today, but I don’t think I have anything in particular I feel like I need to say. That’s why this will be another one of those (boring?) this-is-going-on-in-my-life posts.

Still got the sniffles. Unless I’m a middle aged woman, and I think I am not, it seems like I might be getting a fever… or I might not get one because I’m hot, then I’m cold, and then I’m hot again and then I’m cold again. Strange.

It’s brutal. Physically, and sometimes mentally. But I love it, my job I mean. I get to drive a huge ass truck, I get exercise (because lifting and dragging 9 tons of drinks every day makes your muscles ache) and it’s fun. And I’m loving that I’m not cooped up in some boring office all day. I’m out in the open, I’m free. I love that I can have a morning coffee in one city, and have lunch in another city, then I’ll have afternoon coffee in yet another area before the day is over.

My job is better than working out at the gym, and I look forward to being a “tank”, like Jake would say, or to look like a young Arnold or Sylvester in about a year or so… whichever comes first is fine by me. Maybe the chicks would dig me then? Nah, maybe not… they’d be even more afraid of me.

For a few days I’ve known that I will be flying solo on Saturday for the first time since I started this job. I’m not nervous about tomorrow anymore. My boss called me and explained everything I have to know so well I actually look forward to going solo. I only have 5 places to drive to, and it’s mostly pick ups anyway, so no worries here.

Note to self: buy loads of Finrexin, then drink it.

Movie Reviews – Part VI

Posted in Entertainment with tags , , , on September 16, 2008 by Dankku

Dedicated to all of you that want to watch a good movie but haven’t got a clue what to watch. In the spirit of the other movie reviews I’ve posted these will also be very short.

I’m Not There. The film has a very strange format; it’s like they couldn’t decide on what kind of a movie to make so it’s a mishmash of little of this and little of that. The best way I can describe this film is like this: I’m Not There is a fictional fake-documentary. It takes a little while before you get it, but once you do it’s an amazing journey. Six different actors play Bob Dylan in different times of his life, six different actors playing six different Bob’s. Two of the best, in my opinion, are Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett. And may I be so bold as to say that this is definitely by far Cate Blanchett’s best performance this far in her career? Just look at this picture I stole from my brother’s blog, and then imagine her capturing everything that is Bob Dylan so spot on you actually believe she is him… and she did just that! Amazing film. 4 stars out of 5.

Pan’s Labyrinth. A little girl’s mother has remarried, and they have to move far away. The man her mother married is a brutal military man, and he forces them to live in horrible conditions. The girl is somewhat of a book nerd, and she escapes into a fantasy world full of exciting creatures. She meets Pan, the keeper of the labyrinth, and Pan gives her three assignments for her to do in order for her to come and live in her real father’s kingdom. Good film. Watch it. 4 stars!

The U.S. vs. John Lennon. How can the biggest, baddest, wealthiest, most powerful nation be afraid of one British musician? In many ways the US and its leaders are, to be brutally honest once again, pathetic. I guess the only thing “power” is afraid of, is losing it. And when a challenger comes along, in this case John Lennon, all measures are allowed to get rid of that challenge. This is a very interesting documentary that very well captures the spirit of days long gone; the Vietnam War, the anti-war movement, and John Lennon as a private person, the peace loving family man as well as the anti-war spokesman. 4 stars. Watch it! It is available online.

Speed Racer. Forget the story, forget the acting (or the lack of it in this case), forget the action (which is pretty cool, but so unrealistic). The only reason for you to watch this film is the eye candy. This film is literally like stepping inside a candy store. 2 stars.

The Road To Guantanamo. Three British youngsters on vacation in Afghanistan and Pakistan gets captured by the US military, and even though they are innocent they are sent to, and kept at Guantanamo for two years. They are eventually released without a trial. Drama documentary based on true events. Excellent film. One the best, and the most moving, and infuriating films I’ve seen lately. 4 stars! It is available online, so click here and watch it.

Blog Update & Life Update

Posted in Life with tags , on September 12, 2008 by Dankku

So last week when I decided to take a blog break, I told myself not to blog before this day because I wanted to see what it was like not blogging or having to think about blogging for over a week.

What did this experiment do for me? Well, first thing I wanted to do during the weekend was that I wanted to give up and blog again. Then a few days later I wanted to blog again, but I resisted the urge and told myself to wait.

So I will continue blogging. I realized how much I enjoy it, and even if I never will get the interaction I want it’s a good way to share my thoughts and ideas and experiences with my friends… that way I don’t have to keep e-mailing or calling everybody.

I’m still metal, but not as metal… I got my long hair cut. Which is… liberating. It just got so long it was in the way and it was everywhere.

I also got a bit of an age crisis. I really am getting old. My brothers wife Carina, she cut my hair, and she found several gray hairs. She pulled one out to show me, I grabbed it and held it between my fingers, I looked at it with sadness in my heart and shouted: “what is this nonsense. Gray hair? I’M NOT EVEN THIRTY YEARS OLD YET!”

A little later as she was almost done cutting, she told me “your hair is getting thinner up top so I’m just going to leave it slightly longer up there.”

At this point I felt like jumping off the balcony… but since they live only about a meter off the ground I probably wouldn’t even have hurt my feet.

And now my brother is sick so I have to fill in for him… but I, too, have the sniffles so this day is going to be really tough. And I’m not driving.

See ya!

Goodbye cruel (blog) world!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on September 3, 2008 by Dankku

Well, now, don’t get scared. I’m not saying goodbye forever, only for a little while. I’ve decided I’m going to step off this blog ladder since it seems I can’t get any higher with the way I’m going. It doesn’t matter what I write about: personal issues, politics, films or books or whatever. I don’t get anything out of this anymore.

I don’t feel like I want to blog anymore, and until that feeling comes back I won’t be blogging… simple as that.

I also have an idea I’m going to pursue, or at least try out and see what happens. But first I’m taking some time off this miserable wheel of (blog) misfortune.

Until next time, peace be with you!
