Why?

World War II; my favorite historical period. I find it fascinating on one hand, and on the other hand I can’t understand how what happened could happen.

A few years ago when it first aired I watched a few episodes of the television series Band Of Brothers. I was never able to catch all episodes, but this week I have watched every single one except for the last one (saving that one for later).

Band Of Brothers tells the true story about the experiences of E Company (”Easy Company”) of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, United States Army 101st Airborne Division.

Anyway, what I wanted to write about now, is this:

I found it very difficult to watch this particular episode even though I have watched a lot of films and television series, and read many, many books on this topic. I can honestly say I teared up and felt like shit, and many questions directed to mankind in general went through my mind:

“Why do we hate each other? Why do we do these horrific things to each other? Why can we not accept each others differences and learn from each other? Why can we not be friends?”
